Albert Pinkerton

Piano Instructor

I’ve always loved music, as far back as I can remember.   My mother played piano and organ, so I always heard music being played.  I began playing organ when I was 8 yrs old.  My teacher had me practice on a piano, and immediately I preferred it to organ.  I took formal organ lessons, but always preferred piano.  I taught my first piano student during the Summer of 1985.  I was 14, and knew then that teaching music was what I wanted to pursue.

I earned my Associates Degree in Office Systems Technology from Cumberland County College in Vineland New Jersey.  I then earned my B.A. in Music Performance: Applied Piano from the Richard Stockton College in Pomona New Jersey.

I moved to Delaware in 2000, at which time I taught piano and theory at the Delaware Music School in Milford, DE, teaching there until 2012.  I then taught piano and theory at B&B music in Camden, DE from 2011 til the very beginning of 2020, at which time I joined Ashley Mitchell and Donny Marvel at Flower Child Music Studios in Camden, DE.

I teach all musical styles. Whatever you’d like to learn, I can teach it.  My background was mostly classical, but I learned early on in my career that it’s better if you’re teaching what the student actually wants to learn (within reason), home practice will then become much easier and more fun for everyone.

I can also teach organ, keyboard, along with the various ‘touches’ that go along with each. I can teach music theory, history, appreciation, chord approach, reading lead sheets, chord charts, improvising, composition, etc. I teach all ages and abilities along with special needs, and music as therapy.
